I work for a company that supplies this small component for a heart assist pump manufactured by Thoratec Corporation. These blood pump
devices help people with weakened hearts who are either awaiting a transplant procedure or who are recovering from major heart surgery.
Very few people have gainful employment that feeds their heart. My personal goal is to do what I love. Pumping Clay is about combining.
It is an exploration of the connections between work and passion and a symbolic attempt to bring them together. Literally and figuratively,
my heart is in art and clay.
It is only coincidental that this personal confluence of art and heart is displayed at a gallery called The Artery.
